Villagers Theatre announces auditions and recruiting for Seussical

THEATRE - The Villagers Theatre announces auditions for the upcoming TeensVill musical, Seussical, on May 17 and 20 at 7:00PM. This production will be cast with teens 13-19 only and is produced by Matt DiCarlo and Donna Kimberlin (Executive Producers of TeensVill and Theatre Arts, respectively) and directed by BJ Solomon. Seussical will be performed on the main stage July 27, 28, 29 -August 3, 4, 5 -August 10, 11, 12, 2007.

Auditionees should prepare 16 bars of a song in the style of the show (nothing from Seussical) and are encouraged to be familiar with the show. Readings will be from the script. The Director is seeking a talented cast of strong actors and singers for various roles. Character Breakdown for this production is as follows:

CAT IN THE HAT: the essence of mischief, fun and imagination. Fun and energetic, tumbling skills a plus. Can be either male or female. Strong Singer/Dancer.
JOJO: is a "Thinker", a smart child with a wild imagination. He.s a little bit awkward, a little bit of a loner, and a rambunctious kid.
HORTON THE ELEPHANT: A gentle giant, rotund and appealing. He.s imaginative and receptive to the world around him.
GERTRUDE McFUZZ: Very self-conscious and aware that her one-feather tail isn't perfect. She.s vain, neurotic, nervous, and a shy bird.
MAYZIE LA BIRD: Self-centered, selfish, vain, and sexy. Mayzie will never admit to her own flaws. She manipulates anyone she can into doing what she wants.
SOUR KANGAROO: She isn't really sour at all. She's just got a lot of attitude. She's loud, brassy and a lot of fun.
MR & MRS MAYOR: kooky parents trying to raise a difficult child in a difficult world.
GENERAL GENGUS KHAN SCHMITZ: bursting with pride at the military academy he runs, and the boys he turns out. He is not sadistic, mean or abusive. He is proud!
THE WICKERSHAM BROTHERS: These are not bad guys! They're simply a lot like kids who tease, play pranks and get a kick out of making mischief, although often at others' expense. Must be strong singer/dancer.
THE BIRD GIRLS: a back-up singing group, like The Supremes. They serve as a Greek Chorus. Must be strong singer/dancers.
ENSEMBLE: Jungle Creatures, Who.s, Circus People, Hunches, and Thinks.

Villagers Theatre is also recruiting teens interested in becoming a member of the production staff for this show. TeensVill is a unique entity at the Villagers Theatre encompassing a mentorship program within a live theatrical experience for teenagers 13-19. If you are creative, enjoy working behind the scenes and have no desire to perform, this could be the program for you.

Positions on our Teen Production Crew include assistants to the director, producer, musical director, stage manager, lighting and sound operators, props master, stage crew, etc. Interested teens should send a resume with a letter indicating what their area of interest and why you would be interested in joining our production staff. Interviews will be arranged as resumes are received. Each teen selected for one these positions will be of mentored and trained throughout the production by an adult staff member.
